InfoMagic Workgroup Server
InfoMagic, Inc.

Update notice for previous users of the Infomagic WorkGroup Server

InfoMagic, Inc. has recognized a deficiency in current Linux distributions. They are not optimized for either Server or Workstation use, rather they attempt to be all things to all users. "The InfoMagic Linux Server" is targeted exclusively at the server market and provides top-level installation options to be configured as:

  Apache Web Server
  Sendmail Mail Server
Samba File Server (including AppleTalk and IPX/SPX)
  Base Server

"The InfoMagic Linux Server" is based on the popular Red Hat Linux 6.1 distribution which uses the 2.2.12 kernel. InfoMagic has optimized the base package selection to exclude components not required or desired on a server. The Apache package has been custom built to include functionality not found in the Red Hat distribution, including php3 support integrated with PostgreSQL database.

A web-based administration tool is provided that allows all aspects of the server to managed using a web browser.

The Base Server installs a complete networked system that includes all the expected development tools to allow system administrators to download and build any packages from source. Since the product is based on the Red Hat distribution, prebuilt RPM's may also be used.

In addition to this standard product, InfoMagic is offering custom configurations of the server product. The custom configured server system will be delivered on CD-ROM allowing easy replication on multiple systems within an organization or immediate restoration in the event of hardware failure.

The status of the InfoMagic Linux Server is:

We are in Final beta testing with fixes implemented and a final copy should be ready in about 2-3 weeks. Documentation is progressing and should be completed soon. We will be providing all documentation on the CD in hypertext and printable form, if you would like printed documentation it will be available for an additional charge. You can now pre-order the LinuxServer for $75 online at http://www.infomagic.com/linuxserver or contact us at 1-800-800-6613. Screen shots are now available of the administrative tools at http://www.infomagic.com/linuxserver/webmin.htm

For Custom configurations and more product information please contact cmeadors@infomagic.com or call our 1-800-800-6613 number 8:30 - 7pm MST Monday - Friday

sourceXchange from O'Reilly
O'Reilly & Associates

We're pleased to introduce sourceXchange, a new Web-based service developed by Brian Behlendorf, our CTO, New Ventures and co-founder of the Apache Project.

SourceXchange is an online exchange where sponsors with code development needs and Open Source developers can meet to create solutions together. Our framework makes it easy for sponsors to support Open Source projects that address their specific concerns--and it guarantees payment to the developers who work on those projects. In addition, sourceXchange guarantees developers that code written for an Open Source project will be released under the appropriate Open Source license and will be archived on a publicly available website so that anyone can download and use it.

For more information about sourceXchange, go to http://www.sourcexchange.com.

It's time for the (3rd Annual) Neighborhood Web Fair. We're in need of volunteers and hope that you would like to participate.

For those of you who have not volunteered for a Web Fair in the past - it's an exciting event where neighborhood leaders team up with technical volunteers to create or update their web pages. The St. Louis Community Information Network's mission is to foster collaboration of information sharing among City government, neighborhood-based groups, and not-for-profit organizations, via the Internet. Our philosophy is to enhance community relevant content by enabling organizations to do it on their own. To accomplish this goal we provide internet accounts, training, technical support, and access to internet-connected computers to our members. The St. Louis CIN is very proud of the tremendous effort put forth by both neighborhood leaders and technical volunteers to make the neighborhood section of the City of St. Louis web site informative and engagement. Visit it at http://stlouis.missouri.org/neighborhoods.

Event Specifics:
The Web Fair is the afternoon Sunday, June 6th at St. Louis Community College at Forest Park. We will have more details soon but wanted to give you a heads up to the date.
